Puntacana was founded over 40 years ago with a vision of creating a tourism and lifestyle destination that has as its core values a desire for sustainable tourism and social responsibility towards the surrounding local community. Much of this vision has been achieved; the company has won many recognitions and awards for its pioneering environmental projects and ethical codes of practice. It has also invested in the community through infrastructural improvements and by setting up health and educational facilities.
As part of this vision, it became obvious in the mid-1990’s that there was a need for quality, bilingual education in the area that would cater to both the local Dominican population but also the rapidly expanding national and foreign community working in the tourist industry and related businesses. Puntacana International School opened in 2000 with just several grades and has gradually expanded to what it is today.
Over 20 nationalities are now represented in our student body of over 430 students ranging from Toddler 1 up to 12th grade level. Our teachers are from the Dominican Republic as well as from other countries around the world, delivering a truly international experience for our students.
Puntacana International School is an educational institution recognized by the Board of Education of the Dominican Republic (SEEBAC). In 2011 the school was awarded double accreditation for all grades by the New England Association of School and Colleges (NEASC) and The Council of International Schools (CIS).
The School is bilingual, following the official programs of SEEBAC in all related Spanish curriculum; and subjects taught in English follow the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus, and modified Georgia curriculum, meeting the curricular standards for international schools.
